does xp:include work?

I've been able to dynamically compute the PageName using a sessionScope variable (e.g. "sessionScope.var1") or even getting the value of a hidden label from the form. However, although the PageName attribute is being set (checked via a label that computes its value from the PageName attribute), the page does not update. I tried setting Partial Update but still no change. Only when F5 is hit do I get a refresh of the page and the correct included page appears. BTW, using IE 8.
Anyone got any clues why this isn't working?
